Programs

Community Outreach

DCB provides many community outreach programs, one of its most popular is its Reading Squad. The Reading Squad is comprised of Peer Tutors from grades 7th-12th and adult volunteers that work with students from grades 5K-6th.  Potential Peer Tutors for the Reading Squad must complete an application, attend a 90 minute training, and complete a background check (18 years or older).  Peer Tutors meet weekly with their selected student for a minimum of 20 minutes using the student’s provided reading folder to guide instruction.  DCB conducts a monthly celebration to acknowledge students’ progress and highlight the importance of reading.  If you would like to volunteer with the Reading Squad or would like to refer a student from grade 5K-6th grade, call 843-687-4493 or email dcbinc@outlook.com.  Students also participate with HomeWorks, collecting items for those in need, and other outreach efforts.
